This exhibition is one of The London Group’s most ambitious exhibitions to date and promises to be a highlight in their eventful 109 year history.
With their new President – the award-winning artist film-maker Amanda Loomes – the Group is enjoying a palpable resurgence of creative energy and enthusiasm. Eighty of their members will be showing over 150 extraordinarily fresh, challenging and powerful works.
The London Group was set up in 1913 by 32 artists including Walter Sickert, Jacob Epstein, Wyndham Lewis, David Bomberg and Henri Gaudier Brzeska. Since then, the Group has continued to flourish, with several celebrated and award-winning artists as current members. From the outset, artists have been democratically and rigorously selected on the merit of their work.
Household name, Anthony Eyton RA is taking part in this show. Suzan Swale, who was elected to the Group in 1984, will be exhibiting her painting Glass Ceiling. Her work will also be part of Women in Revolt, a major show of political art which opens at Tate Britain in 2023. Amongst the Group’s recent recruits, Ade Adesina RSA ARE, concluded this autumn with a solo exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy.
The London Group at Bankside will also be an opportunity to commemorate and show the work of their late and much-missed members, Janet Nathan, Arthur Wilson and Dame Paula Rego.

An important segment of the exhibition will be a display of posters and catalogues celebrating the Group’s extraordinary history. This will be curated by London Group archivist and artist, David Redfern.
