During this workshop you will explore the theme of “Winter woods” using a variety of masking and layering stages to build up an evocative seasonal landscape. You will firstly be guided through simple warm up exercises to build ideas and experience. These will include different ways to mask areas of paper to save the white and evoke snow, moonlight and mystery! Then we will move towards a watercolour painting based on these initial visual experiments.
You will also learn how to work with a limited palette of colours, looking at the proportion, balance and tone of colours within a picture. We will also consider composition and focal points. You will end the day having experimented with various ways to work with light and white in watercolour, considered composition, colour and tone, and produced a more completed study based on these experiments.
Suitable for all levels of ability including beginners and those willing to have a go.
This workshop will take place at the new RWS Gallery on Whitcomb Street, just off Trafalgar Square.
All bookings are non-refundable.
