Kristen McClarty ARE

Kristen’s woodcuts explore time and space through encounters of place, inspired by her daily interactions with her environment, walking the coastal and mountain paths around Kommetjie, South Africa.

Despite repeatedly following certain routes, she finds new elements that stand out each time, and feel worthy of inspection from a different angle. Perhaps a rock or structure warrants visual isolation from what surrounds it. Often the object takes on the characteristics of human or animal, testament to my familiarity with this space.

Kristen is also a member of The Printing Girls Collective, South Africa, since 2020 and joined The Association for Visual Arts, South Africa in 2021.
