Claire paints landscapes and still life and is particularly interested in forms as revealed by light, in the latter, and atmosphere in the former. As a botanical illustrator her work ranges from plant portraits to strictly scientific studies. As a watercolourist she is interested in landscapes as revealed by the changeable weather (on annual visits to Shetland); still lifes with their solid forms, textures, colours and the relationships shown by the way light falls on them; plants, where, as a botanical illustrator, she aims to demonstrate their structure as well as their appearance - again by careful use of light and shade.
